Well if my puppy barks and I dont want her to, I just say Shhhh or ahh ahh or whatever command your dog asscosiates with stop is ok. You can also try lighty holding your dogs mouth shut, not to rough just so your dog knows what your asking of them hope that helps.

The way a dog communicates is to bark. Like my wife, some to much. I train dogs for obediance, protection, and more. The only way to stop your dog is just what others suggests, a bark collar. These do not hurt the dog in any way. When a dog starts to bark, their throat swells a little. This activates the collar to give a vibrating feeling, not a shock and stops them from barking. These are relatively cheap and can even get them at Walmart for around 30 dollars. This will be the best money you could spend on your dog if he is bothering you & others.

My Golden (years ago) did the same thing. I would have my sister come and ring the doorbell or knock. Then I would bark! He finally (after about 3 days) “got it”. At first it was just a quiet little “boof”. I told him to “tell them there’s a big fierce dog here”. He got a little louder. With every bark, he got a treat. Next we worked on “telling” me when there was someone coming into the house. He had it down within a month. I think labs are every bit as smart as Goldens and your girl will learn this no problem. I have chihuahuas now and if you can think of anything to make them shut up, I’d be much obliged! LOL!!!
